Sleep Success
I am so proud of my boy that I have to brag on him this morning. Preston slept from 9:30 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. this morning! And that's not all. After I fed him, I laid him back down while awake but sleepy and he put himself back to sleep until 6:20. His poor tummy usually hurts late at night so our normal sleep pattern is to wake every 3-4 hours. Normally it takes me over an hour to get him fed and knocked out asleep before I place him in the crib. He usually will wake right up if he's not totally asleep. I really think we're on the tail end of his colic and I'm so thankful he's feeling much better. I'm so proud of him! Hopefully we will have more nights like this from now on!

Big Preston and Little Preston
Here is an adorable picture of Preston and his Granddaddy (Laura's Dad). Preston is named after him. Some of you may know him as Willie (Willard Preston is his full name) but he grew up being called Preston. He picked up Willie when he served in the Army. Anyway, my parents came over for lunch the other day and the two Prestons were wearing almost identical shirts. It was a Kodak moment :) New post below about The Zoo!!!
The Zoo Debut
Since the weather has been so nice lately, some friends and I decided to take our little ones to the Birmingham Zoo. Preston loves to be out and about so I thought it would be a good experience for him. We went at the perfect time of day. The animals were very active and it was amazing to see them so alert and playful. The white tiger kept coming over to the glass and nuzzling against it where the babies were on the other side. The lions were roaring and running around chasing each other. I may sound a bit too excited about this but every time I've gone to the zoo, the animals are usually sleeping. Anyway, Preston obviously did not care too much about the animals but I know he will once he gets a little older. We purchased a membership so we'll be making many zoo trips this year. After lunch, we made our rounds to the sea lions and monkeys but by then Preston had pooped out and fallen asleep. This was fine by me though. The poor little guy needed a nap. For anyone who doesn't know, Preston still has some colic so naps are very precious right now. The girls and I had a great time with the babies and I'm looking forward to going back. Below are some pictures of our day!

2 Month Checkup
Yesterday we went to the doctor for Preston's 2 month check-up. Dr. Youngblood says he is very healthy and looks wonderful. He currently weighs 13 pounds 9 ounces and is 23 1/2 inches long. He's in the 83rd percentile for weight and 64th for length. He had his first round of shots, two in each leg. I was so nervous. I can't stand the thought of someone pricking my child and have him hurt. He did so great though. He did turn as red as a tomato at first but he calmed down about a minute after she was through. I was so proud of my big man :) He was worn completely out once we got him dressed and loaded in the carseat. He was knocked out before we even left the office. We don't have to go back again until he's four months so at least we have a little time before anymore big bad shots. I've included a picture of him smiling. He's so cute :)

Back to Blogging

I have slacked on our blog for the past few months and now that we're settled in with Preston, I hope to keep it updated regularly. Preston is nearly two months old and we are enjoying every moment with him. His personality is started to show and he's smiling now. He is so adorable. His colic is beginning to subside and I'm hoping we're nearing the end of it. Below are two new posts - one about Preston's birth and another for Christmas. Enjoy!

Preston Blake Mosley
Our precious baby boy arrived Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2:23 p.m. He weighed in at 7 pounds and 15 ounces. My labor and birth experience was definitely a bit surprising. My water broke at midnight on 11/4 while I was sleeping. It took me a few minutes to realize what happened. I was used to getting up a few times a night anyway for potty breaks and my first thought was that I didn't make it in time. Once I was sure, I quietly said "Um, Blake, I think my water just broke". It took about 1.5 seconds for Blake to awaken from his deep sleep and say "Let's Go". Now some may call me vain but at this point I was not contracting at all and had no pain. Therefore, I decided to take me a nice shower, fix my hair and put on some make-up. I wanted to look presentable when my son saw me for the first time :) But, anyone who knows my husband knows he is not the most patient of men. He paced around me the whole time hurrying me along and mumbling remarks about me giving birth right there in Trussville. It makes me laugh thinking about it. We were off to the hospital around 1:30 a.m. On our way there I said "Well, we're going here two and coming home three". Once we arrived at the hospital, the nurse examined me and confirmed my water was broken but I was still only 1 cm dilated. I couldn't believe it! I thought for sure it would have been more. I still could not feel any contractions so she let us rest a while to see if they would kick in. When 5:00 a.m. was approaching, I had the tee-tee urge. Come to find out they will not let you out of the bed once your water breaks so here comes the bed pan. Somehow the baby did not like when this happened and his heart rate dropped. It was a very scary moment because the nurse had no time to explain to me what was happening. They turned my bed nearly upside down to get his heart rate up and threw an oxygen mask on me. Everything was fine after a few minutes but needless to say, I was teary-eyed and scared afterwards. Thankfully it didn't happen again. My contractions still had not kicked in so I was given Pitocin (sp?) to get them kick-started. It worked. I was given my epidural around 10:00 a.m. when the pain got worse. I expected the epidural to be very painful but it was a breeze. Unfortunately, that was the only "breezy" experience. By noon, I felt lots of painful pressure with every contraction. I was told this was normal so I thought I was just a wimp. I started pushing around 1:15 and did so for about an hour. By the time he was beginning to crown, I was feeling a lot of pain in places that I shouldn't have felt with an epidural. The nurses realized my epidural had worn off but it was too late. He was coming anyway. So...I got to experience natural delivery :) Although my labor and delivery was not what I had anticipated, it was suddenly all worth it when they placed my baby in my arms. I finally got to meet the wonderful little person that grew in my womb over the past nine months and stole my heart from the second I heard his beat. Nothing prepared me for the instantaneous love that you feel for your own child. I feel so protective of this precious baby that God entrusted to us and thankful for the blessing of becoming parents. What a wonderful gift!
